On Monday, Microsoft tycoon and co-founder Bill Gates and his wife Melinda announced their divorce in a joint post after 27 years of living together.

During all these years, there were many times when the media wanted to know more about Gates' rise and the huge professional success he has achieved to date and about his personal life, his wife but and the family they both have created.


After the announcement of their famous divorce, one after another the revelations come to light and really cause a great sensation. In particular, a 1997 article published in Time Magazine and "unearthed" after the news of the couple's separation, reveals that the Gates had a "strange" agreement with each other.


Bill could spend a year alone on a SK with his ex-partner Ann Winblad at her North Carolina cottage.

According to the article, entitled "In Search of the Real Bill Gates" in the 1980s, a few years before his marriage to Melinda, Bill was dating software entrepreneur Anne Winbland. The two divorced in 1987 but remained two good friends.


According to BusinessInsider, the businessman had revealed in an interview that shortly before they got married, in 1994, Bill and Melinda, the famous American had asked for the approval of his ex-partner in order to marry Melinda. "I said it would be good for Bill because he was mentally strong," Winbland admitted at the time.


Until 1997, three years after Bill and Melinda were married, the couple had an agreement that Bill could spend a weekend each year with Winbland at her North Carolina seaside cottage.
